Just looked at childcare.co.uk and there is a profile....

we need a nanny/childminder for 40 hours a week. Duties will include looking after our 8 month old daughter.
We offer £600-£650 a month.

i worked out that to be less than £2.50 an hour......i dread to think what the other duties will be!

i have sent a message....pointing out the less than minimum wage issue for nanny. And to expect to pay a bit more even for a cm...and the baby would be at cms home. Also a link to some info on what to look for in a cm and nanny - i have a suspicion this low wage will encourage all and sundry applying- no crbs etc.

Oh well, if they're paying peanuts they can expect a few responses from Twycross Zoo.

One near me a few weeks ago asking for "cheap and cheerful childcare" ...... It's just your child at the end of the day, I mean why pay for quality???

I was thinking of replying, offering a nanny share at half that price!

I'm rubbish at maths - I make it £3.75 an hour! No wonder I'm always broke

Me too

£2.50 an hour is £433 a month for a 40 hour week.

£600 is £3.46 per hour
£650 is £3.75 per hour

In some areas, that's a perfectly respectable going rate for a CM but I guess it depends on area.

Surely if these parents are employing a nanny they should be paying minimum wage at least as if it is only 40 hours a week I'm assuming it's not a live in post with board and lodgings!

Your right, and there's no way they would get a nanny for anything like that amount of money, I'm an nneb qualified nanny although a cm now and going back nearly 10yrs for a 45hr week my take home pay ie after deductions and I was live out nanny was £350 a week plus I got petrol allowence and all outings expenses on top including gym membership at virgin vie, those were the days, lol. I'd actually get less than that as even though i charge £4.25 per hour that's mainly for schoolies. Up here we charge daily (£30 for 8-6) so my weekly rate is £140 (£10 discount for 5 days)

I didn't bother to work it out but I am not great a numbers too so don't worry wobble! I have been described as cheap but nice by a current parent who has recommended me to a friend....not sure if that's nice or not...as i am only cheap to that particular parents as college pays most of the cost! this friend doesn't go to college so hope she's not expecting the same!! plus can't do the friends little one together anyway i have two under 5's and my daughter already! annoys me when parents think they know ratio and costs without asking.
