Giving up on the NCMA membership and taking out MM insurance - advice pls

Hi,

I'm taking the plunge as I feel very let down by the NCMA. I am going to trial the MM insurance and wait for the Pre-School Learning Alliance membership.

Question - what contracts do you all use with MM? I know you can use your own but I would like advice as to contracts which are available to use rather than make my own up.

I am a newly registered.childminder insured with.mm and i use.my own contracts. I used mm as a template amd took out some stuff which felt didnt need. If u pm i could send u a copy? X

Hiya, Im with MM and have found them to be brilliant. I use their contracts, they are written clearly and easy to read. Hth xx

Also with MM, and they are so helpful!
You can still use NCMA contracts with them, you can use any contract but MMs are really good :)

I use my own contracts and I am with MM - just make sure they say the right things so you can eg terminate immediately on non payment or if a child / parent's behaviour is unacceptable.

Hi all I am up for renewal and MM are half the price of NCMA and offer the same, and it looks like paperwork is cheaper with free p&p my question is can I still keep children I already have on the contracts from NCMA or do I have to redo them to MM and will I still be a member of NCMA thanks have a great day Debbie x

Mine are up for renewal in July and like Debbie I agree that the cost of the paperwork is ridiculous. Interested in the contracts question regarding existing children too.

I think the best thing to do is ask NCMA, though I would have thought they would still stand until they needed renewing, and then renew with MM contact.
I have been thinking along those lines myself so would be interested in other peoples replies.

You can continue to use NCMA contracts with MM. You could even at renewal time continue with the NCMA contract.MM allow you to use your own contracts too. X

This is where you have to be careful. In fact MM are not half the price of NCMA.

NCMA cost is approx £21 for the Public Liability Insurance and and extra £5 for Employers Insurance if you have an Assistant.

MM is nearer £44 and includes Employers insurance even if you don't need it.

The extra you are paying NCMA is a Membership Fee to belong to NCMA which you can do even if you don't have your insurance through them.



Remember that MM is purely an Insurance Broker. They do nothing for cm other than provide certain sweeteners like paperwork (which is more expensive then NCMA) and magazines and the like to get you to buy insurance from them.

NCMA is a membership organisation who represent childminders and fight for their plight, and they do maybe not always splashed all over the tabloid press but they are beavering away on our behalf.

So please don't say MM are half the price because they are not for insurance and they do not offer the same as NCMA.

Nmca is both membership and insurance.

Mm is just insurance.

No Debbie that is not correct. NCMA do not charge £81.29 for insurance. I am beginning to get very cross at this poor information giving.

If you look at the renewal you will see that the cost of the insurance is approx £21 or 22 the balance is the cost of your Membership Fee to be a Member of NCMA.

You can be a member of NCMA without using their Insurance but you can't take of their much cheaper insurance without being a member of NCMA

Be very clear MM is more expensive, they are purely an Insurance Broker and they have no interest in furthering the cause of childminders only attracting them to use their Insurance and increase their sales.

NCMA is a membership organisation who do represent and push the interests of cm and they happen to also offer their members very cheap insurance.

Hi rickysmith sorry I have just checked email again it just says renewal is up April and that price, that's why I was confused it makes sense now lol I thought it was expensive for insurance that's why I was going to change, thanks for putting me right Debbie

I have had both NCMA and MM. I would stick with NCMA onley because, I called NCMA for advice regrading my Ofsted report. They were great, gave me very good advice, wanted to give me lots of support etc .. Now I am with MM. I called them yesterday regarding my new Ofsted report and they were rubbish!! Did not know anything about Ofsted, told me they were only an insurance broker and could not give me any advice about anything. NCMA have a lawyer one can speak with, will deffo go back in June!

I looked at the Mm paperwork and didn't like it as much as Pacey, although I've heard so much about Lacey not living up to what they used to be.

MM is much better value and you are not restricted to use their contracts.....i used a contract format provided by my local authority. It was important for me to keep my costs down to begin with so i didnt want to have to buy paperwork/forms which the local authority kindly provide.
