Hello everyone

i am really thinking of becoming a childminder and was wondering step by step on how i do this and also how much it would all cost.

Contact your local authority and find out about pre-registration courses. They will explain how much things cost in your local area - because it varies through the country.

Hi The way I did start I went though the local council depending on where you live.

Yes, contact the council and go from there.

When I registered in 2007 my LA gave a grant of £300. Then the grants stopped for a couple of years for new minders and now they are offering a £500 grant I think.

Just to give you an idea of things: you will need to do a course in home-based care , First Aid Course, safeguarding and EYFS, CRB check and maybe work towards level 3 (not sure on the latter)
And also a health check with doctor.

You will have a visit from Ofsted to look at your house, out things into place that they say you need.

This is what I had to do but it may have changed in 5yrs. I know you have to do EYFS course before you start, something which I didn't have to do.
