Hello, I have worked as a Childminder for a year and thinking about trying for a baby in the near future :)
I pay national insurance for being self employed etc but how does maternity pay work?

Thanks
Jodie

you are entitled to about £130 ish per week for 39 weeks maternity allowance as long as you have been paying your Class 2 NIC's for something like 29 weeks prior to you reaching your 29th week of pregnancy. its very easy to apply for and comes through nice and quickly. it does affect your entitlement to things like housing benefit though.

If you ring the job centre they will give you all the info you need and forms, it was really easy to apply for.

Thanks that's great, we don't get any kind of benefits so wouldn't be a problem, reassuring too know its straight forward- thank you :)
