Why is it that the majority of my mindees don't eat the crusts on their sandwiches?

What is it with kids and crusts?

Tbh I'm not a fan of them either but I do eat them!

I usually leave the crusts on & compromise saying they can leave half! I think thats fair?

Drives me mad! I make homemade bread with a very soft crust and also homemade Pizza and they still leave the crusts! If I remember I cut the tiniest sliver off the edges and then they eat it.

mine eat them - usually new children need a few times of saying 'we eat all of the sandwich at ks house...' but soon do. Its just a pet hate of mine Im afraid. They get the next bit of the lunch when theyve eaten all the sandwich!

I used to have a child that would only eat one bite out of a sandwich if it had a crust. In the end, I cut the tiniest, thin slice of the crust, and then he was more than happy to eat it all.

If I made toasted sandwiches, I used to say the edges were crunchy caterpillars!!! They all ate them too.

I just use the crusts for the bird table or to feed the ducks

My dd eats them, my ds throws a strop is he has his on (he is 4 and at school - I cut 2 sides off and leave 2 sides on - he sometimes eats them), my mindees who are 2 plus eat them no problem but I automatically cut them off for under 2s - not sure why really?!

I have always cut the crusts off for my little ones but then I put them on the plate next to the sandwiches and they eat them? :clapping::laughing:

I have to cut the crusts off for all mine too. So I now blitz the crusts to make breadcrumbs and pop them in a bag in the freezer - adding a bit each day. Then when the bag is full and I start a new bag I use the previous bag for either coating chicken or fish goujons or to make a crunchy topping on cauliflower cheese or pasta bake.

I always cut sandwiches into triangles so there is only one crust, it works

My Lo eats the crusts no problem. Hubby made her a sarnie last week for us to take out, asked me if she eats the crusts...yes I say, so he cut them off.

We do that here too - despite all leaving crusts on sandwiches they all fight over the end slice of bread to eat with nothing on:rolleyes:

None of my mindees eat crusts and even worse my own 2 children won't. The annoying thing is i have never cut the crusts off so i don't know where this aversion to crusts has come from.

Now that is just too good I'm afraid

So pleased I am not the only one with this problem. I now cut 2 crusts off and that works. My problem is the monsters who take the ham out of the sandwiches and refuses to eat it.

Maybe kids think the crusts are just to hold onto while they eat their sandwich ?? Just a thought :D

If the crust is on a sandwich 3 of the 4 LO's leave it. If it is buttered bread with soup they eat the lot and then ask for more, Kids eh.

IME this is one of those 'unwanted behaviours' they learn from other children. My mindees and grandchildren have each been fine with crusts, and even polished of crusts left by others, until some other annoying child told them not to eat them. Had exacly the saem thing over 'bits' in juice/yoghurt.

I managed to get 1 or 2 back onto crusts by smearing them with chocolate spread and eating them myself. Not wanting to miss out on choc spread, they starting eating them and failed to notice when I reduced then stopped the choc spread.

they eat them here, I tell them if they are hungry they will eat them and if they dont then theres nothing else,, its part of the bread/sandwich and i get sick of chucking food away just because they are fussy so its eat them or nothing else
