Very simple, just 3 ingredients, no raw egg so really young children can squidge the dough with no worries about them eating it. Not overly sweet, more like a shortbread but really nice.

3 oz. caster sugar
5 oz butter (could use shortening for really white biscuits)
7 oz plain flour

I actually doubled this recipe and there was a ton so depending on how many biscuits you want (or if you want to freeze half the dough) then the original amounts would probably be enough.

Pre-heat oven to 150C/300F/Gas Mark 3. Blend the butter and sugar together until pale and creamy. Work in the flour with a fork, bit by bit until you have a stiff doughy consistency. You might want to refrigerate it for an hour or so at this point, if it gets too warm and sticky. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface until about ¼ inch thick.

Use a small glass to cut intersecting circles, which will give you 2 crescent moon shapes. Sprinkle these with granulated sugar.

You could cut any shapes you want really, and we also fashioned the letter S, cos we’re working on the sssss sound at the moment.

Keep squidging left-over bits of dough together and rolling out again til all used up. Bake until light brown and golden, DO NOT OVERBAKE. Remember the biscuits will brown up after coming out of the oven so don’t bake them til they’re brown. In my oven, it took about 14 minutes.

Oh thankyou Tatia!

I am going to make some of these next week.

My letter is all so ssss this week as trying to get mindee to write her name.

P.s - i like the way you explained how to make them, you could make your own cookery book, as I find your explaintions easier to understand. Ha!

(btw - what is shortening?)

Let me know when you have more recipes!!

Shortening is white, blobby...ummm do you maybe call it Lurpack? It's not butter but you use to make pastries? Maybe lard?

They look really good.

I'll make them with the kids when I have them back in September!!!!

(Not really rubbing in the fact that I don't have any kids over the summer)

Thanks for the recipe, I have just made some and they are fab even if I do say so myself. I too usually leave biscuits in too long so I made myself take them out of the oven and they are perfect (she says wiping crumbs from the keyboard) ;)

This is now on my to-do list - maybe do eater egg shaped biscuits.
Just one question - can you do the mixing in a food processor?
