Hi, was just wondering if anyone else has cats, do you have a litter tray and where do you put it? Our cat died a few months ago sadly :( but she always went outside to do her business, was very good! so I didnt worry about a litter tray. Now we have 2 new cats and have tried not having one but they do their business on the floor occasionally and once on my lovely rug which had to be thrown away! :(
Im a bit worried as waiting for my pre reg ofsted visit and have no idea where to put it, obviously its not at all hygeinic, I wouldnt want to have it in any of my registered rooms but the unregistered ones would be locked, the only place is the bathroom but children may go up there unsupervised.
Could anyone tell me what you do ? Also where do you feed you cats? I was thinking maybe outside but would it be ok in the living room where children play? obvs cant be the kitchen..

I have the litter tray and feed my cat in the utility room and keep this door shut, the cat has a cat flap so she can come and go as she pleases but she only has access to the rest of the house outside of miding hours.

Mine has his litter tay outside in the day - I can't be doing with poo in my garden and neither can the neighbours I imagine! It just seems easier - I bring it in at night but we have no cat flap so cat is in at night.

Mine is on the middle landing and the cat comes and goes as he pleases (usually going when the little ones are here LOL). However, he is also as happy to lay in a sunny spot and be fussed. I clean all surfaces before use anyway and he is shut away at all feed times. x

Mine come and go whenever they please
Food is in the utility room where the children don't go. Before I had a utility room the food was in the kitchen and there is a gate to stop the children from going in the kitchen.
If I had a litter tray (we did when he was a kitten) I would put it outside maybe if there's nowhere else for it.

I have 3 cats and they come and go where ever/whenever they want to as they are a family pet that's why and the little ones adore them! Mrs O came recently and was impressed that the cats just flopped onto the floor whilst children were playing and none of them bat an eyelid lol:laughing: she said its important that children don't have a fear of cats?dogs.... not so sure about dogs because i'm not a fan (sorry dog owners) were all different! as for litter tray mine is hidden behind a chair in lounge and is similar to a pet carrier with a lid over and one of those mats that cat litter sticks to when they have been! ifswim??? i have a pet policy in place i have risk assessed the situation and my cats are very calm and the litter tray is cleaned/emptied every single day the floors are steam cleaned every night! There is no way i wouldn't let them in the house whilst CM children are here as they were here first! hahahaha

Hiya,
I have a corner covered litter tray next to the bin in my kitchen. Both Ofsted and Environmental Health are fine about this. I don't have anywhere else it could go.
Just use your common sense and put it somewhere the children aren't going to be able to access it, and then risk assess what you will do to keep it clean eg. remove soiled litter each day, clean outside of tray with antibac wipes each day, not let children have access, not clean it when you are preparing food etc....
BTW, for reference the cat's food and water bowl is in the another corner of my kitchen, and no, my kitchen is not very big! Possibly the smallest room in the house :)

I don't have litter trays anymore but would recommend one of the covered ones & ditto to both MrsO & Environmental Health being ok about cat food & water bowls in the kitchen. I do try & feed them first thing so I can get rid of the food bowl but they need water down & I wouldn't allow LOs into the kitchen unaccompanied so don't see a problem with this.

we got kittens in August. we have a covered litter tray which is in the utility room. during the day when minding the kittens are in there. when we access the garden, the kittens go in a doggy crate and I put the litter tray on the worktop out of reach of little hands. :)
I have an enclosed litter tray by the back door in the kitchen I also keep the cats food and water bowls there too and I've never had a problem with Ofsted or Environmental Health :)
