I'm 99% sure that I saw a photo on here of a canopy that someone had made to cover their patio area so they could use the garden in poor weather but I can't find the post anywhere.

It was wooden posts with corrugated pvc roof and guttering and is just what my hubby's agreed to make for me so i need to show him quickly before he changes his mind!!!;)

I know it's a long shot but i'm hoping it rings a bell with someone?

I think you're talking about Playmate's outdoor area - I won't link to the thread as its in members only area, but if you search for new outside area or look at threads started by playmate you should find it easily

I think it was Playmate too - remember showing DH and trying to convince him (unsuccessfully) that I need one

Looks good to me!!! I would love to be able to get DH to do something like that - but I know I've got no chance - unfortunately he sees my job as something as an inconvenience :(

I have one - it is made by using joist hangers fixed to the house, with 6x2" joists sat in them and running down to 2x2" posts upright and set into those metal bases for fence pole uprights that are bolted to the patio stones. There are 6x2's running along the front as well, that the guttering is fixed to. Running between the 6x2's are 2x1's set in mini hangers of their own and above that is corrugated plastic sheets fixed with a nail gun through plastic supports. It all slopes down to the guttering which slopes off to fill water butts. It's great - I hang my washing under there too! Jen x

We use ours ll year round. The best thing we have done. We also hang washing under ours too. Amazing how much heat comes through the plastic roof

Hi do we need planning permission for such canopies? Don't want to upset neighbours but that would be just perfect on my patio area - living in wales we have :blush:lots of rain!

We didnt get planning permission. Ours is not attached to out house and is not a preminent structure as such

no permission needed - It isn't a permanent structure and it doesn't take the sun or affect any of our neighbours - the hedges along our garden are seven feet high and the canopy is eight feet high - it is about three feet or more from their property either side and neither have ever commented negatively on it!

That looks great.......!!!! What have you used to enclose it and where did you get them from?

My dh built me one and it is fantastic but I would love something to keep the rain out.

Love your canopy - are the side pieces of a gazebo, tent or caravan awning? as I have seen similar on a reception class building and had tried to describe it to my husband.

Also does anyone know does playing under a canopy count as outside play with Ofsted or do they have to actually be out getting wet!
