Hi All, I'm after a bit of advice. One of my mindees has gone down with chickenpox over night and is REALLY sore around her bits!! Mum is doing the usual, calpol, calamine lotion and cream etc. but do any of you experienced peoples have any suggestions to help with the soreness? Bless her :(

Been in touch with out of hours doc and they say if they turn septic they can give her antibiotic cream, but at the mo they are just really uncomfortable for her!!

Is lo in nappies? It would be better if the air could get to the area so the spots can dry up. My lo had chicken pox, lots in the nappy area and they did heal up but it took longer than the other spots. The calpol/nurofen alternating every 2 hours and nappy cream should help and keep lo clean/dry with frequent nappy changes.

Piriton and a cooler than luke-warm flannel. This eased the itching on my ds.

Hope they get better soon.

Bicarbonate of soda in the bath relieves the itching

Poxclin mousse is brilliant and I used it all over Sarah when she had chicken pox. Bit pricey but so worth it. Much easier than calamine lotion and is anti bacterial too. Hope LO is better soon

Thanks all!! She is 2 1/2 and just out of nappies so mum is letting her wander round with nothing on! Have already suggested the oatmeal in a bath and piriton, but will let her know about bi-carb and Poxcilin - thanks again!!

When one of mine had it, the chemist told me to use sudocream as she was potty training at the time and said to leave her in nappies so she wouldn't scratch and the sudocream would act as a barrier when she did a wee and would help dry up the chicken pox quicker x

My DD who is grown up now had them all up inside her and it was nasty, we used a cold flannel and allowed to her to knickerless as it seemed to help.

Bicarbonate in the bath definitely. We stayed away from calamine lotion as it tends to get itchier as it dries, there is a cream with calamine in which is much better

Thanks all!! Have passed on all suggestions to mum!! Text earlier to see how lo was doing today and mum says she seems a bit brighter and not complaining about her bits so much, so hopefully on the mend :clapping:
