I have just become a registered childminder and am trying to work out what costs I need to cover each year and what expenses I can claimed back from hmrc so that I am making a profit.

I plan to charge £3.50 per hour for full days or £15 for breakfast/afterschool club.

Do most of you charge full retainer or half retainer for parents holidays?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

:)

Everyone is different -
I charge per hour and then nothing if I'm off for any reason - illness, holiday. I charge full if the child is off for any reason, illness and holiday.
I personally don't charge retainers for term time only or holiday only contracts but I know some do.
I don't charge for Bank Holidays but some do - I don't work them.

I'm the same except I do charge for bank holidays although do not intend to work them, most parents have them off anyway so wouldn't be needing me, so why should I loose out when they get paid for theirs, but that is my opinion:)

I charge £3.50 per hour - mimumum of £20 a day for a pre-schoolie (I have one that comes 10 - 3 - difficult to fill the space around the hours). Before school - minimum £5, after school minimum £10!

I charge half for parents holidays, full for parent/child sick. Nothing for my holidays/sick/occasional days off and nothing for Bank Holidays as I don't want to work them!
