Oh my word! Is it only a few weeks...

Couldn't you have said 'the end of the month' or something to make me feel better? :panic:

Yeah well, that's what got me in trouble, Sarah! By thinking I had all the time in the world and forgetting how fast it disappears these days!:(

Hi all thanxs for replying i have just finished my E115 now deciding which course to carry on with this weekend. if any of you decide to do e115 keep any letters from parents, schools, speech therapists or social services as these will all help with evidence for EYCLO forms. All your observations, evalations, policies can all be used also. If i can be of any help dont hestitate to leave a message:littleangel:

 I done e123 last year and nearly gave up as I had the worst tutor ever, only continued because they promised I wouldn't have her again for e124
Much better this year but I think I will do a course at a local college next as I prefer regular contact and the social aspect of face to face meeting and getting together to discuss course work etc

HI,

I have done E123, E124, E230 & I'm in the middle of E243 at the moment. I have just requested a place on E115 for October then just E215 to do to get the foundation degree :clapping:
I heard E115 was a bit of a nightmare which is why I skipped it to do E230 & E243 first. How did you find it, stimmy? Is it as bad as the reviews say?

I was very happy to get my certificate in Early Years Practice but my enthusiasm has gone down hill & I am just carrying on by sheer stubborness! - I started so I WILL finish!! Can't wait to be free of TMA's though :jump for joy:

i've also skipped the e115 and have just registered for e230 and e234. I think i will do E115 next year. It would be really useful to hear from someone who has done E115, as I have also heard it is really hard and time consuming.

Are OU courses free?

Tatia
17-06-2008, 07:01 AM
No. The two I'm doing were about £300 each. SOme of the more in-depth courses (like E115) are around £600 each.

That being said, contact Surestart in your area, ask for the training coordinator and see if there's any funding.

Also if you're on certain benefits you may get a reduction in your course fees....

OK thanks. I'll have to enquire about funding. Can't afford that sort of money for a course :(

I was funded through the Transformation Fund last year for E123 which cost £315 but as that fund ended, they didn't sound hopeful when I asked about funding this year. But I just got a letter confirming they'll pay the £340 for E124 which I am now doing in October. :clapping:

If you can't get funding locally, depending on your household income you might qualify for financial assistance with the Open University. http://www3.open.ac.uk/coursefinance/ There was a chap from OU at one of our tutorials and he seemed to think that you could earn quite a bit and still qualify for some assistance.

Karen where did you have your tutorials I was told it would be Lincoln Uni every other Saturday but that does seem a lot for distance learning!

Hi Anne,
For E123 & 4 the tutorials were at Lincoln Uni but certainly not every other week! I think they were about every couple of months or so.
For the E230 & E243 the tutorials are at Nottingham, no good for me as have no transport but the tutor has been good at emailing her notes etc to me.

I am doing Childhood and Youth Studies degree and get it free as I am on working families tax credit as a single mum. I'm booked on the CIP course and am only planning on working part time as a childminder so that I can keep getting the course for free as it works out better that way. My aim is to childmind while mine are young and do the degree with a view to being able to use it in a full time job when they are nearing high school, my youngest is currently 23mths.
