Paying our tax bill

I know the deadline is Jan 2013, but can I pay half now and half nearer the time, or do you have to pay it all in one go?

I'm trying to decide whether to just pay it now and get it out of the way, or keep the money in my savings account gathering interest for the next 6 months.

Trouble is I'll be going on maternity leave so I don't want to suddenly have to pay £1,000 mid-maternity leave!

You can pay it whenever you like. Cheque, bacs or by dd each month. All the details are on the self assessment section of the website

Keep the money earning interest! Why should the govt make money from you?

Instead of paying mine up front im stashing savings in a high intrest saver account.
