Me too Penny - not a clue about when tonight is on:laughing:

I hope they don't go on about capping cm's fees again - it seems to have been discussed with very little understanding of how different all the services are that we offer!

I don't think I will be able to watch it. I think it might make me too cross right now. I'm completely fed up with the misconception that we are all rolling in money. Tell me someone else (apart from childminders) who would work for £4.87 per hour which is what I spend the vast majority of my week doing right now:angry:

Yes and we too are parents caught in the same trap who are working our fingers to the bone to provide quality childcare in order to put food on the table for our families - and at the same time paying out for hefty fuel, food, energy, insurance (X3 - PLI, specialist household & car), admission fees, stationary & huge variety of resources. Our fees are not our wages - our wages are what's left after expenses. Children benefit greatly by our fees.

Sorry Penny, there was just a trailer for it whilst I was fiddling on computer - but I see someone's already posted the answer.

I shall be watching although it will probably make me cross!

(Some) nurseries seem to be running in the red .......

Seems to boil down to ratio's ......

It came across to me as if all child carers were raking it in.And of course where were the childminders on this programe? we were skimmed over.

We were hardly mentioned, mostly slanted at nurseries.

Interesting though that the nursery manager said 70p in every £1 goes on staff costs because we have much higher staff ratios here than elsewhere in Europe - sounds familiar

People want quality childcare but nobody wants to pay for it. Either we work for nothing (and that includes nursery staff - the nursery manager stated that 70% of her costs are staff)) or the goverment take money from other areas or hike up taxes just so as working parents can keep their careers and have more money in their pockets

And there was no mention of the benefits available for working parents such as tax credits and childcare vouchers.

Of course not Miffy! who ever heard of tax credits and childcare vouchers.
And I should not say it? but I am going to cringing but the first couple paying a thousand pounds a month on childcare had a really nice inside of their house which didn't look like they were scrimping or making do,did you see the cd's in the background? I thought when they said some parents are going without food that these people would have next to nothing.

yet to see it but from the sound of the comments, it sounds very much like the programme a few months ago where the same was raised, no childminder represented. Some misleading statements

So I watched it - on plus 1 because I had forgot and went shopping :D

Anyway DD1 text me to remind me - so all was not lost.

First I need to open a nursery - or work in one of those nurseries featured - 70p in the pound on staff costs over £1000per month per child - 6 children in my ratio as staff so - £6000 a month - that is - oh where is the calculator? 70p in the pound - oh lets say £50,000 a year - Don't think nursery staff get paid that much!

Second - I really would like to be one of those'poor parents' who could not afford childcare cost - both those working and those not - as I would love one of those houses or cars, or thefurniture - oh and the evident regular trips to the hairdresser.

I liked what my friend Neil Lietch said - but they did not pick up enough on what he was saying - nor on what the father in Sweeden was saying. The cost is met through higher taxes - his and those without children.

Where was the mum living in the tower block struggling to meet childcare costs but doing so because she has no choice?

Oh well back to realaity where I shall have my 4 little ones tomorrow and earn a fantastic £92.60 for a 11 hour day - and that is before expenses.

However I shall take them in my old, tatty car to the arboretum for a lovely day out complete with picnic, and because going with my friend Carol not worry that I have not been to the hairdressers for about a year and my clothes are not 'this seasons' in fact they are at least 4 years old and are well worn.

And on Saturday for my daughters wedding I shall wear my nice new outfit that has cost me 3 weeks profit (in other words 3 weeks wages) and was less than £100!

Get real people - If you can't afford children or not prepared to go without other things - don't have them. If you can afford them but don't want or need to work - stop pretending that it is childcare costs that are stopping you from working.

If you have children - they are your responsibilty - It is not the governments responsibility to cover you childcare costs - and it is not my 'duty' to go without to subsidise your lifestlyes.

Sorry - getting off soap box

Penny :)

I hope so too Miffy DD3 being the one who has well - been a little bit challenging all her life and mother to Dominic who I often speak about and little Scarlett Rose.

Yes - Will do cake inspection if she brings cake - if not I will down grade her!

I missed it but from what has been said i don't understand why the Tax Credits that can pay up to 70% of fees is never mentioned. Its not even mentioned by people like Ms truss for whom you would think it would be something the government would be shouting from the roof tops as a way they are enabling poor familes to get back to work.

So agree with the above comments. Programme made me angry.

Yet another friend on facebook saying she cant afford to go back to work after baby comes (but sounds likes she will still get abit of money coming in after child care costs)

And surely the highest monthly payment should go on your number one priority in life...your son or daughter? Good quality childcare for 4 years to give the best start to your little one shouldnt be looked at as a debt or an inconvenience

Yes have a look. Please observe the poor housing, neglected hair, old cars, and non existing floor to ceiling CD's.And also count how many times the word Childminder is used!
