ok set this up - used the words Penny wanted to use on Government one - go tweet and share on facebook, email to parents - send it far and wide - and get the message out there.

My stuipid computer won't open the link. Go for it though - we are just trying to get ourselves heard. If we make people read our point of view 10 times over - then that's all good!!!

Great stuff - I know its not ideal - and we wanted the number 10 petition - but they could take up to 7 days to respond to the 2nd one we raised yesterday and I don't think we want to loose the momentum we are starting to get. Plus we couldn't use the words that Penny created yesterday which means that people we are trying to sway won't get the message and might not sign.

great stuff, i'm hoping now people have come in from the sunshine they will see this and others people's links on facebook and the numbers will increase.

Today i've put it on twitter, facebook (my account and Cm southwest group), i've emailed all my parents, i've put it on NCMA local, 3 private forums and emailed it to my NCMA local rep copied in Tim Farrow and sent to my LA who have now forwarded it to other managers.

If anyone has accounts with mumsnet, net mums and they can get it on there that would be great.

Canvas support whereever you can. What we want is a large number of people putting their names on the petition - unless we do I don't think they will start taking us seriously.

Can we pin this thread on the forum?

Thats amazing! When I signed an hourish ago, there were 68 signatures then!

I put the link on facebook and almost immediately got another childminder questioning it though :( She was saying that Ofsted expect too much of us and we have too much to do, so having them out of the picture might be a good thing. I tried to explain the best I could by leaving notes in the comments box, but I don't think some childminders realise the 'downside' of no Ofsted! They seem to think we will be able to carry on just as we are, but without the stress of paperwork etc. We are up against alot more than just the government on this :(

I know its going to be a tough battle - 'but' we can increase our against voices be getting parents in to support - at the end of the day the parents might care even if the childminder doesn't. We need to send it out to everyone we can.

thats a great idea - Pauline are you in a position to ask any of our forum supporters to help spread the word? after all without childminders their businesses could suffer - especially if its paid services?

We would never have had the opportunity to leave all those comments on the government one - I hope once the number start getting really high that media picks up on it - and they can see the passion from all these childminders - men and women, parents alike.

I blame the sun for the slowish progress today- hoping for a massive boost to numbers when everyone comes back inside :)

I emailed 13 childminding associations last night including notts and county so its great that they have forwarded it to members - very reassuring, let hope the others follow suit.

I'm seeing it on Twitter loads and facebook is heaving - I have been posting on Facebook 3 times a day - reminding people to sign and forward - remember people might be on holiday or away for the daY and miss it if it goes to the bottom of the news feed - so keep posting regularly so we tell everyone.

I spent the morning with several childminders - non of which had heard of the issue - all said they would sign and forward to families and fellow childminders - we just have to keep talking to everyone and anyone.

Woo Hoo over 1000. Please everybody dont just put a link in facebook, also send a private message to some of your closest friends to make sure they fill it in for you. I sent it to 25 people this morning by private message and so far 18 have read their message and completed it because once they have read your private message they cant say no :clapping:

I have also sent a email out to 70 of my local childminders asking them to please fill and pass in, however when i sent the last one regarding the NCMA survey no one responded to my email, so I can only hope that they have all heard some of the news over the last few days and decide to sign the survey.

Anyhow off track a bit there, please also get any family member over 18 with a email address to sign the survey, we need all the names we can.

I reckon we can do 2000 by tomorrow morning! It's been slow and steady today, but as people are finishing work, already the count is going up much more quickly!

I have managed to get 8 signatures that I know of, so not amazing, but hopefully if those 8 pass it on to 8 more who sign and pass it on, etc, etc, I won't have done too badly!

uf353432
23-05-2012, 06:16 PM
yes i've noticed that too - we're getting a steady stream coming through now and its building nicely through the evening.

I have a facility on the petition to email updates to people - so when we get to specific targets we can do a mass email encouraging people to up the anti and repost on Facebook to get more signatures.

Lady Haha
23-05-2012, 07:09 PM
Just been nosing at the petition again and noticed that the facebook share option is now asking me if I want to message my friends to invite them to sign. I was all for it, until I realised that it says ALL of my friends 'has not signed this petition' when I know for a fact that a few of them (friends from here) have signed it! I don't want to go messaging people asking them to sign, if they already have :(

Why is this part wrong?

uf353432
23-05-2012, 07:21 PM
I don't know Janis - it appear to be broken, I noticed this earlier. Send it to them again anyway - it comes up on their wall and if they forgot to repost on Facebook then you have told their friends for them. I am pretty tenacious -and end up reposting repeatedly

ours wont support it unfortunately because they think they have said Agency Contract in the bag - Development Officers / Network Co-ordinators - creating standard childminder policies and talking about when we are under the umbrella of the Childrens Centre and they are inspecting us and when we have a group grading - so no hope of any support there - unfortunately all childminders under each of the CC's will have to get together themselves and try to spread the word.

I have continued my Facebook campaign and so far my private messages have generated 29 signatures whilst the link on my Facebook for everyone to see has managed 3 signatures. So please everyone send private message to even just 5 people, and they will sign for you.

I have also sent a email to Our local PVI forum who's aim is trying to get all private and voluntary early years working together. I have stated on the email that this impacts not just us but also nurserys and parents and anybody who supports childminders. It may be a long Shot but I'm hoping it will generate more knowledge.

I have sent my early years team a email asking them to spread the word to their colleagues as this impact them too. I asked them to make sure that in the training sessions over the few weeks to raise awareness as I only have email addresses for 70 childminders in my area and I'm sure there is more.

I sent a email to my nvq assessor as she assesses lots of childminders and so do her colleagues.

Finally I sent my husband to work with a load of leaflets asking for support, as I used to work there before I had my little girl.

I am currently trying to get in contact with local sure starts to see if they Will support the campaign and let their users know.

I am also wondering if our local paper would do a article?

Any other ideas please keep sharing on here as then others can use them too.

wow - that is amazing. I studied her REPEY study for my degree and she was saying back then that so much more research needed to be done to look at how to put processes in place and support minders to improve the quality of care in childminding, so I'm so impressed she's found this petition. We need someone like that on side.

I've just e-mailed my DO's to see if she'll e-mail the link to our local minders e-mail database, and a contact in a local borough and he gave me the e-mail for their local childminding association so have sent to them too.

My DO has responded to say that they are trying to find out if they can get involved and in what capacity - I guess politics makes it hard for them if they need to remain objective. I've not used the arguement that they sent out the NCMA petition to everyone - so not sure how this is different.

In other news - just had a really long conversation with John at Change.org - he is going to type up some notes and send to me later for us to agree on.

I've suggested that he might like to sign up and we have a thread specifically for him to get your feedback on what the changes mean to you so that he gets a broad range of input.

ours wont support it unfortunately because they think they have said Agency Contract in the bag - Development Officers / Network Co-ordinators - creating standard childminder policies and talking about when we are under the umbrella of the Childrens Centre and they are inspecting us and when we have a group grading - so no hope of any support there - unfortunately all childminders under each of the CC's will have to get together themselves and try to spread the word.

That doesn't sound good does it  How can we have a group grading I just don't get it?
We are individuals? How can we be graded in a group?

The local authorities might have several groups and each group is graded accordingly maybe?

I will keep posting the petition and will fight til the end , but I have to say, that sounds like it IS in the bag and will happen whatever we do :(

They NEED to know how many childminders will leave if this happens! I feel like tearing my hair out at the moment! How can they be soooo stupid to even consider this?????

Could you attach a copy of your leaflet - others might be able to use it

Well I had a reply from my network co-ordinator this evening, after asking her if she could send it out... Not a positive one either... :(

"Will let you know if I am able to do any more with your request. at the moment I have been asked to confirm that you are aware that this is in consultation and we have put out the message about childminders engaging in this consultation to express their views. Any childminder can do this through NCMA website (national). Nothing has been decided yet.

I appreciate it causes concern but sometimes it can get very hyped up with the media too. A petition is one way of voicing views however the consultation route would also be a very good an constructive method too."

Hmmmm...???

I had told her I'd read the house of commons stuff, and listed to Truss on radio etc, so it's not just 'hyped up media' I'm worried about....

Have you told her that link to epetition is on NCMAlocal and that NCMA staff (as themselves have signed plus lots of well known other professional - people can actually do the consultation and the epetition

Good luck with trying to convince her

My DO has been very quiet on this matter. When I spoke to here previously, about the questionnaire and consequences, she sounded negative, but cagey, now I am wondering........

I have heard the same from my ex LA colleagues - they have to be careful and can not state their work role but they can sign as an individual - as I believe a member of NCMA staff has done - as an individual

wow! we're getting hold of some good people :clapping:

i've emailed my DO, who is being rather quiet currently. i'm hoping its just that she is very busy and hasn't read my emails yet.

Hello Loocyloo, hope you don't mind me jumping in, I'm a shy lurker!! I'm in North Yorkshire, not sure where you are but I'm in the Harrogate area. I emailed my CSSO with information about the petition and a copy of the email I sent to Elizabeth Truss. She got back to me very quickly saying she was very concerned about the issue of deregulation and was going to put it on the agenda at her next team meeting. Hopefully NYCC will take the issue seriously and support us!

I had an email from our DO's and network co-ordinators to all childminders in Swindon with a link to the petition urging us to sign. Good to see word is getting out :)

I wonder why some NCMA units are helping us, whilst others aren't.

Firstly thought they were all part of the national NCMA group, so there would be a general NCMA stand on this.

And secondly, aren't they meant to be there speaking on our behalf....???

I'm not sure about this either - we could do with NCMA putting their weight behind this petition too.

When I emailed my DO at Bedford Borough, I was basically referred back to the NCMA questionnaire we all filled in a few weeks back :(

The problem alot of DO's have is that they have a clause in their contracts where they are not allowed to get involed in 'politics' but are ok in national campaigns. My local authority are currently trying to find out if they can 'help' because of this clause - whereas the NCMA campaign is fine.

Don't let that stop you from the great work you are doing - professionally they might not be able to support but they won't advertise what they can do off record.

Wow sounds like our DO's are in the minority in getting behind this campaign in a professional capacity. What a crying shame.

thats a great idea - Pauline are you in a position to ask any of our forum supporters to help spread the word? after all without childminders their businesses could suffer - especially if its paid services?

Sorry only just seen this, with so many threads and posts I don't get to see many, feel free to PM me any time if you want something. Anyway, not too late to see what I can do

Because local NCMA Do are employed by the LA not NCMA and so they would have to follow local LA rules I think.
