Just woundering how everyone else stores their books, i have all my books in a big wicker basket

http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/k610/adelecorbett/25212022.jpg

i really want to make this baket into my sensory basket (just started making sensory bottles with the kids and would like to extend this into a full area in my playroom with all sorts of sensory things in it) i want to use the basket which has all my books in for this area

my problem.....where would all the books go

do u have book out all the time?
how many books do u have?

i was thinking about getting one of these for the books and thinning the books i have out a little what do u think?

I've got one of these but the back sling for the books has just broken this week. I've had it for 3 years though. I rotate the books in it.

I have a plastic box of older or board books on the floor for children to help themselves to. My newer books and our library books are on a high shelf which are taken down when other toys are cleared away and i'm in the playroom

it's a bit of a sore point with me:blush: but i hate to see books left lying on the floor. I also have 2 crawling babies who would just rip the books

we use a magazine rack which has a handy handle. We rotate the books weekly

Ikea spice racks! I've mounted some either end of a changing table but love the idea of a book corner (if I had the space)

Personally I think your books look great in the wicker basket and the kids can reach them nice and easy.

We can sometimes over do things and end up spending loads and loads when we really do not need to ...... I do the same sometimes

I love your tree and flowers on the wall, a nice colourful relaxing corner for the children its lovely

I agree - it might be easier to buy another wicker basket for your sensory items.

I do like the Ikea spice rack idea though!

it looks lovely - what's in the folder against the wall?

Someone mentioned they use wine bottle holders to store sets of sensory bottles - maybe that would work instead of the basket?

Mine is similar to this, but floor standing , and the local church rooms were throwing it out.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Book-shelf-display-rack-/330730630318?pt=UK_Bedroom_Furniture&hash=item4d0114ecae

I also put books close to activities and toys - for example yesterday we had the pirate ship and dress up out , and I put a few pirate books out alongside.

I love the spice rack idea though , especially as you dont want that many books out.

That's such a good point to make - we should be bringing books to life in this way!!! Thanks for the reminder!!

Love the tree and flowers

I have a small box of board books i put out for babies/toddlers

IN the playroom i have 2 shelves in storage unit reachable to all and a pull out storage (under their table with books in, so all reachable.

I was looking at special book storage but my network co said why? your books are fine as they are. I do sometimes select a few each day and put out on table/side as a display.

I love all these displays as a focal point. Adele, the tree is fantastic and really welcomes you in, MrsP2C really clever alternative use for the spice racks and Boris, great because the stools are low down and accessible.
I've just got a basic wire book holder that is screwed on the wall, only because the children can see the front of the books and I didn't want any more freestanding furniture as there is enough of that.

That's a lovely idea to have for the children to look through - I have my LJ's down in the book rack for the children to look at but hadn't thought of putting my outings folder down there - I have scrap books that i keep for parents to see - should put them down for the children really!!

Thanks for the ideas everyone -love the stools too Boris, are you an ikea adict by any chance? All ikeas are out of the spice racks it seems now, have been checking for months but no joy!!

I store mine in wicker baskets as its really easy for the children to access them and i rotate them regularly. I have just moved my book area out of the playroom and into my living room as the playroom was always a bit noisy and busy for quiet times where the child can sit and relax and look through a book at their pleasure.

I have one of the wire bookstands from NES supplies-it was a pretty good price. It comes as freestanding but hubby took the stand off and fixed it to the wall.Babies and tots can reach the bottom ones and the older children can reach the top.
I used to have them all on a shelf, but they never got read unless got them out-I think it was because the children couldnt see the front covers so they didnt appeal to them. They definitely get read more now!!Ive got tons of books so i rotate them regularly and try to link them in with any topics we're doing.

mine are in one of those plastic fold up toy baskets, I have two of these filled with books and rotate them each week,, I also have a small round basket for which I put related items and books to our theme, so this week we are doing the hugry cattapillar and in the round basket we have the hungry cattapillar book, a wiggly cattapillar book, the hc puzzle and some balls with holes in to thread the cattapillar (green peices of ribbon) .
most of the books the children can reach are board books then I keep the nice books in a box under the stairs which we sit and read together.

Yes me too..don't really fancy a trip to Belfast but do love these for books.
If anyone knows which stores sell them I'd be interested. I'm near Coventry or Nottingham (I'm spoilt by having two stores within an hour)

These are in the sale at the Nottingham store for £7.99 (usually £15.99). Hubby has been tonight, there were 3 left.

I have mine in a low, wooden book case - you can get loads on there and it's easy for the kids to reach and choose a book too (if I knew how to, I'd add a picture, but I don't, sorry!)
