TP Large wooden sandpit?

I bought a large hexagonal wooden sandpit a few months ago which we've not really used yet due to the weather but I'm unsure about the cover. It came with a plastic cover which kept blowing off and would fill with rain so I bought a wooden cover but that is slated and therefore lets in the water.

I'm not sure what to do.

The wooden cover protects the sand from cats etc but is it OK to let the rain in? It's supposedly good at draining so is it ok just to take the cover off and rake over the sand and let the kids play in it or should I find another way to protect it from the rain?

Could you put the plastic one on and then use the wooden one on top, if it still lets the rain through tilt one side slightly to let the water run off

How about putting the plastic cover on and then the wooden cover over the top? That way, the plastic cover is reducing the rain intake and the wooden cover is stopping the plastic one from coming off?

Or, how about somehow fixing the plastic cover to the top of the wooden one (with glue or something?) so again they work together to protect the sand from the elements?

My husband is a carpenter and specialises in garden buildings/ fences and timber frames, he would be giving some sort of long length idea but unfortunately I'm not that good, sorry :blush:

We did try that but yes it let in the rain which then pooled on top of the plastic cover! Tipping it may be an option (very slightly) but the goles between the slats are quite sizeable so i think it would still let the rain in

Our playgroup has one but there's is under a canopy - oh I wish for something like that!

mine has a kind of decking area that rolls back and the rain comes in through the wood but its never been a problem,we do get flowers and weeds growing every spring though so we do some garening first before we play in the sand :)

Contact tp customer services and tell them the cover didnt fit and kept blowing away and they will send you another one.
Alternatively staple the plastic to the top of the wooden cover - and also tilt slightly - both things together should mean the sand is largely protected. Horrible for a toddler sittling in cold damp sand.

Thanks! I do feel that for a sandpit costing so much money a decent lid would have been good! It's not a sturdy lid at all as it folds as you lift it. I will try stapling it and see how we get on! All I wanted was a decent sized sandpit where I could just take the cover off and let them play!

I'd contact customer services explain the problems and ask for my money back, then look for something more suitable.
