Default What paint is best for Salt Dough?

Hi all. For the first time today i made salt dough. The kids loved mixing it all together and by the end we have got some beautiful handprint decorations for presents this christmas as well as some stars and christmas trees.

What it the best paint to use on them? Would you recommend varnishing them once all the painting is finished to give them a good shine?

I think next week i will add some food colouring to batch of the mixture to make them look a bit more funky ( note to self the word funky should be used far more often!!! )

I think i need to go out any buy some more christmas cookie cutters

I love the handprint ones and will be doing those next week so thanks for the idea! I would try acrylic paint - I have some lovely gold and silver ones which would work well but ready mixed paint with varnish over will probably be equally as good. I quite like them plain though.

PVA glue mixed in with your normal ready mix paint would be fine too x

I'd use acrylic paint then pva glue over the top when that's dried will make it shiny and last a bit longer and won't smell as badly as varnish.

I did these last week and the little ones loved it and carried on playing with the left over dough for ages
I used silver and gold acrylic paint and they came out really well
