Starting up again after having a baby and would like to invest in some new resources, especially for after school children as not got much to cater for them. What are your mindees fave toys/activities under 5 and over 8 ideas please? Thanks ladies x

I only have 4 & 5yr olds after school & they still like to play with the toys I have out for the younger children. When I do holiday cover for older children I find that art & craft always seems a big hit, with the boys & girls.

    Also:

board games - they love Operation, Guess WHo & Connect 4

    dolls house & furniture

    lego/duplo

    Playmobil

    action figures

Just having a read through this thread. Seems everyone grand with the under 5's - easy and simple enough to amuse - its the 8's and overs there isnt so many suggestions for (and up to 11). I really struggle to amuse them - grand on a good day when we can walk and get out and about. But on wet days they are a bit old for indoor play centres. Apart from playing the wii, board games etc, what else is suitable. Would be great if mine even brought a book from home or their nintendo ds - but this rarely happens. Dont want them watching tv or playing computer games all day.
Any suggestions gratefully taken on board!!

hi, my over 8's love lego and any kind of messy play that the little ones like

    paint
    coloured salt
    dough
    big boxes
especially stuff they wouldnt normally get to play with, on nice days we have dens, water/ food fights ( flour, jelly, etc) all washed away later with hosepipe
and wet days we do science experiments with household ingredients or gloop.

the kids love it, the parents learned never to send their child in anything they want to use again
