    Default Easter egg hunts

How do you all organise your egg hunts? That's if you do them of course.

Do you hide lots of little eggs in the garden? Or do you buy fewer, but bigger eggs and hide them all in one place? (My mum used to do the latter, I do the former).

Do they have to follow a trail or are they scattered about to find at random?

Do you leave clues for older children?

Do you count how many you hide and when you have found them all that signals the end?

If it rains heavily, do you do it indoors instead?

I never used to do them for my mindees at my home because I only wanted to organise one big one for Easter Sunday in our garden for DD and her cousins, but I used to take the mindees to one at our playgroup.

Do you stop when the children get to a certain age?

My eldest child is 28 and I'm still doing Easter Egg hunts! I have said I think they're too old now, but each year they talk me into doing another one.
We do ours on Easter Sunday and it's just for family (our children, their partners, our grandson and anyone else they happen to bring along).

I buy one large egg each, then lots of little eggs and sweets. I count everything out evenly and give everyone a list of what they have to find. eg. 1 large egg, 1 creme egg, 3 small wrapped eggs, 2 mini choc bunnies etc. I start off placing things carefully round the garden, but after a while I give up and just stand in the middle and throw handfuls of little eggs and bunnies about! Last year I had over 400 individual items to hide so I wasn't going to mess around looking for places for all of them

Then I sit back with a coffee and let them hunt. Most years they find most things, but there's always something that goes missing. I often picture the squirrels sat in their nest with a stray packet of Haribo sweets

Like Mouse I am still doing them for my grown up boys and partners if they are here.
My youngest is watching his weight this year So I hid plastic eggs with socks inside - and just a couple with tiny eggs - everyone needs an egg after all.
Because it is so lovely I hid them outside with clues, we have two barns and a stable so they were good hiding places too this year.
A positive aspect of moving Maza is that you have new hiding places....the boys knew all my old ones after 30+ years!

Well, DH looked out of the window this morning, after I had hidden the eggs and the big chocolate bunny (which always marks the end of our hunt), and he saw a squirrel interfering with the bunny. I only half believed him, but got back out of bed anyway to take a look, and sure enough, a flipping squirrel was dragging the big bunny across the lawn! Bearing in mind, we live in a first floor flat and our garden is quite far away, as far as gardens go, so we couldn't easily stop it - we couldn't yell too loudly because it was just gone 7am.

We had to wake DD up and by the time she got there it had totally eaten one of the eggs - the wrapper still in one piece on the grass, and chewed three big holes in the box of the chocolate rabbit. DD was really not happy.
