bird feeder without peanut butter?
Hi all,
I could google this I guess, but I miss chatting, so I'm asking you lot instead.
I have always made bird feeders using peanut butter and birdseed and various containers/pinecones/sticks etc.
I'm wanting to make some with the kids at school - but obviously peanut butter is a no no in that environment.
Any recipes for an alternative? x

We use lard. Mix it with seeds and put in yoghurt pots, on pine cones etc, then leave it in the fridge to set.
Some I send home with the children and some I put in our garden...then sit and wait for the squirrels to come and pinch them!!

I use Lard too.
And add bits of saved bacon rind, chopped up apples and raisins.
A few years ago DD and i made some in cookie cutter shapes using gelatine.

Thanks ladies. Lard it is then - great idea. I won't be able to use bacon rind. I'm hoping the bird seed is nut free - I guess some is - I'll just have to carefully read the ingredients.
Yes, the squirrels nick ours too!

I sat watching a squirrel take the waterproof cover off our rabbit hutch last week! It spent ages pulling at it until the cover fell off. It was putting in so much effort I didn’t have the heart to stop it. I was fascinated to see what it was going to do with it, but in the end it just left the cover on the ground and ran off.
