Mine love a torch- particularly as it is getting dark earlier in the evenings now, they love going to find dark places with the torches

A plastic box, maybe a small one with a handle on so he can swing it around, put some battery operated lights inside, colour changing ones would be nice, line the box with whote tissue paper if you wan to diffuse them for a different effect. I'd sellotape the lid on so they can't get at the lights/batteries at this age.

For the very Young we have this:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/VTech-Baby-...ustomerReviews

Songs are a bit annoying - but light show is entertaining and all safe.

For older children I bought these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cheap, comes from foreign parts but still going strong two years later and constantly used from Nov- Feb.

I have recently been given one of these:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/colour-Crys...ing+light+bulb
LO's love it. I keep the actual bulb out of their way obviously but our best activity is to put it in our long hall with lots of wall at LO who has just started walking Height - and he touches the colours and walks up the hall.

At about 15 mins before home time I clear everything away sometimes in the dark nights and put on an invitation to play tray: some little battery operated tea light candles ( beware of batteries and children of course), some pillar candles that change colour by remote, various torches, glow lights ( from Blacks) mirrors, old cd's, a turn table, a clock that changes colour when you touch it and some prisms.
Turn lights out but not dark that you can't see furniture/ obstacles and they just explore.
No plans, just play- which takes a different format each time.

Mine love going outside with torches too.
We have lights in our garden to highlight sections so we put those on and then they just explore what they can see with torches.
A good game to play with torches both inside and out is can you find...? They have to use their torch to find something in the room, on the wall, in the garden.
For the oldest children I make it a little more difficult and might choose a small item within a picture or show them a photo of something, and they have to find it....a door handle, lamp shade, book on book shelf...
Put big jigsaw pieces or a size to suit age of children around room - on chairs and surfaces as they may slide on them if on floor - they find and we all try to put the jigsaw together by candle/ torch light. Just 2 piece jigsaw for young ones.

Tidy up inside then go out for last 10 mins works a treat- house all tidy, coats are on....this works for me as mine all leave around similar time.
