Anyone doing anything for the Queen's birthday?

I know some people did some lovely jubilee activities which I might trawl through and see if I can adapt. I haven't planned anything as I'm not working tomorrow. DD's school isn't doing anything (that I know of) but I feel like planning a little something... We're all on diets so I shouldn't bake anything sweet, but I might.

:-) I hadn't planned to do anything but I might! I've got childminders drop in and I usually prep a few activities ... Maybe we'll make her a birthday card!
Any other ideas?

Mind you ... my lot are just into construction /building sites at the moment! Lol ... we could build a castle!

I usually try to read a story that links in ... But I haven't got any about the Queen!

I have loads of photos , collected over the years and I am an avid collector of Ladybird books about the Royal family including the latest in celebrating her 90th, so I will use these as a focus and see where we go.

In line with all birthdays we celebrate, we will have a birthday cake in her honour and have pass the parcel game - I have some jewelry in the wrappers and tiara's in the middle. I suspect once we have done that my three girls will just want to dress up as the Queen and Princesses from there on.

Those ideas sound lovely! I didn't do anything in the end as DD was out on a playdate after school. I loved the documentary which was on that night though - with her and her family watching their old family films.

I also loved the documentary. It was great to see the delight and surprise on their faces at some old home movies that they hadn't seen either.

Hasn't she got an amazing memory for people and places? They did come across as warm - especially Princess Margaret's daughter.

Yes a wonderful memory. I loved the film shot of the children on the ship having a lot of fun with cousins on the big slide.

I loved that too, and it was lovely to see how relaxed everyone was and how warmly they spoke of everyone else.

We didn't do anything either in the end ... at the childminders group the children were only interested in building a huge train track! At home dinosaurs ruled! And when I suggested one of the dinosaurs could have a birthday, I was looked at as if I was being ridiculous!

I am always intrigued by the unique mix of an idyllic childhood (they had some amazing toy cars, doll's prams, real animals etc, tons of space and experiences) and then the tough side, like their parents going away for months at a time. I read that the queen's parents missed her first birthday because they were on a 6 month tour. Can you imagine that? I think the royal children of today have it easier.

I also loved seeing that kids will be kids, no matter what their generation or class - like rolling down hills, watering the 'grass', pretending that they were ponies, performing songs for the camera, conducting a band and marching. Didn't you just love the footage of Prince Charles going under the queen mother's robes at the coronation?!

I'm not even a royalist but it was a really good programme.
