What do children do here?
I think we all sell ourselves short sometimes ... 'children play here' does not really cover how hard we all work!!
My latest blog tries to explain to parents all the ways we support their child's learning - https://knutsfordchildminding.wordpr...ng-this-month/.
I hope colleagues find it interesting

Excellent article: thanks Sarah.
One slight point of disagreement though. "Children play here" covers some very hard work at Bunyip Towers.

Some good summaries Sarah, as ever! Thankyou.
Though, like Bunyip, I am proud of the fact that the children play here. I work hard to ensure they play. All the things you outlined is what I still consider to be play. They learn everything through play, it's the best thing about childminding, I can allow the LO's to play until their hearts content. They invite me in because they love playing with me and then my play helps take us all onto another level or direction in our play, sometimes they come along and sometimes I stay on their path.
I outline their play activities in my daily diaries and summarise learning through this play to let parents know that the play they take part in helps their progress, learning, knowledge and skills. Like you I share my individual planning linked with the child's next steps with parents and we work together in finding opportunities in their play here and at home to develop in these areas. Having teachers as parents helps though and I don't find I need to outline specifically the learning that happens through play as some are more knowledgable than me in some areas, I have maths, literacy and art leaders so they are great for keeping me up to date too!
I love your 'planted practitioner' approach and explanation.

Thanks Sarah.
I have a sign 'play is children's work' near my front door and often include it in newsletters home!

Thank you so much for sharing this, Sarah. Each one of your blogs reminds me why I became a Childminder, and reading them always makes me want to become an even better childminder than I thought I could be.
Wishing you (and all of the other dedicated forum Childminders) a very happy, healthy, motivated and prosperous 2016.
