    Default Hopscotch?!

Is this a game kids still play? I loved it as a child. I was just wondering if it could feasibly but thought of as educational or linked to any of the seven areas of learning? What do people think?

We still play it,mark making, number recognition, counting, gross/fine motor skills, turning taking and of course plain old fashioned fun are a few reasons to play it.

Yes, we play. One of the playgrounds near us has it painted on the floor and we always end up using it. Different ages use it in different ways, so they all get something from it.

We played it in the summer, out the front in our cul de sac as an alternative activity to gardening ( I have a herb garden as a front garden) my elderly neighbours loved it and joined in reminiscing ( 82) my young neighbours, flash car, no children, every conceivable change to house made, security cameras everywhere, asked if you could still graffiti the paths legally! Didn't complain as such but questioned me. I said it would wash off when it rained.....it didn't rain for ages! They made me feel so uncomfortable that I crept out when I knew they were out one night and scrubbed the path as I could see them clocking its status...just a few numbers on a path. My oldies commented that their fitness studio had been removed and asked me ( jokingly) to do one outside their house.

I now play it in the back garden only, great for Mark making. I have a template for LO's to use if they want to, gross motor in jumping - or in our case just doing a skip with a dance of legs open and closed randomly to next square, throwing pebble, counting, seeing numbers in the environment.....

We don't have one in our playground......a feel a suggestion to our council coming on.

We play it. Children love it. I gave the foam one to use inside too. I also use the foam number as stencils to make displays n birthday cards for the children. They will be drawn round, joined together to make a 2015 collage next week too

My nearly three year old boys love jumping on the different numbers and trying to hop or jump/star jump, but are not interested in the rules of the game. My DD used to play it on her way back from nursery (if we stopped off in the playground where it was painted) and so she was almost four when I introduced the rules to her.

I agree with Maza, younger children just love to jump on the number about 4/5 they can hop and understand a few rules. Older children love it and get quite serious about hopping and not putting your foot down,
