    Default Mini Beast Theme

    Hi,
I'm doing a Mini Beast Theme with the mindees this month, i have a few ideas and activities planned
but was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas? My mindees are 2, 3, 4 and 5 years old.

    Thanks

Borrow stories about insects from your library eg: Hungry Caterpillar, Bad tempered ladybird etc - I often do a search on Amazon to get titles then search on my library on line catalogue to which ones they have, with my library I can order the books to be sent from other libraries and don't have to pay anything to order in children's books. Then link the stories to the mini beast theme or you can go off track and include Healthy eating or being friendly, don't forget to go on a bug hunt too. I know I once found on-line a hexagons colouring activity that I could link to bees (like a honey comb). You can find interesting clips on youtube about how bees make honey and how the honey comb is turned into honey.

Painting stones as bumble bees and ladybirds

Making insect houses - old bits of wood, garden canes etc placed together to give insects somewhere to live

butterfly print pictures - paint half piece of paper fold and press to get print.

sucking straws like butterflies - try to suck different thickness liquids(ultra thick shake, milk, water etc)

Bug hunt turning stones over - we sing we're going on a bug hunt to the going on a bear hunt story

Magnifying glasses and pots to look at insects
