    Default Caterpillars / Butterflies

    Morning,
I saw on here last year a lot of you had been hatching butterflies. I'd really like to do this with my mindees this year. Is it easy to do, where is the best place to get the kit from? There seem to be several companies out there and I'd prefer to use one that was recommended.

    Thanks

I've currently got 5 caterpillars They came from insectlore. I think it was £25 inc postage. That was with the butterfly house! They come in a little pot with all the food they need. So simple and the kids absolutely love it

I bought my kit from baker ross and you get a voucher with it to order the caterpillars. Was £13.99 a couple of weeks ago. Fab watching them

Those with the caterpillars/butterflies how long do they take to do their stuff?

I'm thinking of getting one but I work TTO and with only 3 weeks left of this half term and 5 weeks the half term after I don't want mindees to miss out (nor do I want to leave the caterpillars home alone when we go on holiday!)

The hotter the weather, the quicker the process. Some years we have had butterflies in 2.5 weeks. I think I'll order mine for just after Easter this year.

I absolutely love this idea and will definitely be ordering one when I'm all up and running! Although the extent of my 'wish lists' may cost me a small fortune at this rate!

Me too - will aim to have them delivered for 2nd June (just after half term holiday) then have a clear run of quite a few weeks

I got mine from amazon for £13. It came with a voucher for 5 caterpillars which we have now. Ive had them a week today and they have grown so much, I would say 4-5 times their original size! The children are fascinated and so am I!

I have done these for the past 3 years and the kids love them. I have them for the last half term before summer hols. Times vary but usually takes 3 weeks. I bought some last year as pressies for a couple of mindees too. Ours stay on the sideboard then we hang the net up when the butterflies appear because our cats are very interested in them once they start fluttering

Can they escape?! I'd be worried about the caterpillars getting out...also have 2 cats, it would be my nightmare to wake up one morning and find the house knocked over and empty...! But would love to have them if they can't get out!
