    Hatching quails would be an alternative if you can get hold of an incubator and brooder. I buy eggs from e-bay, which are quite cheap. mine live in an indoor animal cage- cockerels not really an issue. Just as brilliant to watch hatch. I bought my incubator for about £40 and it is great- I like manually turning the eggs though.

    Aww I'd love to hatch chicks too. I'm Interested by the quail idea too. I've set up a little wireless camera in a bird box in my garden. It cost £29 from qd. I'd bought one for my dad last year and it was sweet watching bluetits eggs hatching and then all comings and goings of parents feeding chicks. No baby's in my bird box yet though.
