Australia Day Ideas!
I've noticed it is Australia Day on Saturday. Is anyone doing anything with their mindees this week or next? I'm trying to do some more multi-cultural activities and this seems like a good one to try and do something on. I have one mindee, nearly 3 but others are 2, 1 and 8 months so craft will probably be difficult to do. Food is always a good one. Any ideas what I could do?
I probably shouldn't be too worried, we have Vanentines Day, Chinese New Year and pancake day coming up soon!

Oooo watch home & away... I used to nanny for a family on palm beach (where it is filmed)
Pavlova is easy to make as are anzac biscuits.
Have a bbq
Find the wiggles on you tube ... They do a good one with rolf harris ' tie me kangaroo down sport '.
There are some lovely books. I especially love possum magic.
I usually print off some pictures/outlines of australia, kangaroo, koala etc & then give the children cotton buds to paint dots on them.
Enjoy :0)

oooh thanks for all these great ideas, I had been racking my brain to think of stuff to do - never done Australia day before as we have a real multifaith setting so we already do plenty of celebrations and festival days but my cominder/mum is over in Australia right now - it has taken most of the little ones 10 days to miss her, they have just been asking where she is today, so we have good reason to add this one to the list this time around - got enough here to keep us busy for a while

Get some Australia travel brochures, let lo's cut out pictures and stick to an outline map of Australia.
Get some coloured dot stickers (Wilkos sell them cheaply) and let children stick them on print outs of Australian animals, like the aboriginal dot paintings - print a few examples from google images to show the children
Have a look at Kids Crafts, Colouring Pages, Printables, Puzzles, Worksheets and Holiday Fun! which has a good section on Australia Day.
Do a forum search for planning ideas from previous years.
Miffy xx
Keep smiling!
