    Default olympic torch

The Olympic torch is coming through our town soon and I was wondering if anyone had an ideas on a craft activity to do at our toddler group. My mind has gone blank. I can only think of rolling up a piece of card to make he handle but how would we make the torch piece? It has to be fairly easy as its at toddlers

I am taking all my mindees to see this on the 20th July. Ours schools are finishing at 1pm so all ages can watch.

I am lucky that i have only a 10 minute walk to see it.

Be interested to see what ideas people have

If you cut tissue paper into a flame shape and stick them at the wider end, if they blow at the small end the tissue will billoow like a flame.

Take some empty coke bottles or other fizzy drinks bottles (the large ones) and cut the ends off about 10cms up. Cover with tin foil (make sure the edge you cut off is not sharp - good idea to cover the edge with tape), hold with the bottle neck end and stick red/orange strips of card and tissue into the big end. Made these at an event at the weekend - very simple and effective.

We did this, well dd did for an Olympic homework from school. It looked fab, so much so the school borrowed it for their Olympic display. She also made some medals which can be either painted, although we found some medals on the net and glued those on to cardboard with a ribbon attached

If it's raining (don't be daft it's May I hear you all cry) cellophane paper might be a bit more weather proof. Very excited, its coming to Ironbridge on the 30th, all our schools shut at 2pm.

They are coming through our town on Sunday - we've made torches with rolled up paper and tissue paper for the flames. Good point about the rain though - hope it stays dry! I don't work on a Sunday but I've invited the families to come and watch as it goes past us.

We are away on holiday - I was wondering when it was coming near me - must see if it's anywhere else close by for when I',m home!
