How can I find a Childminder? A recommendation from someone who has used a particular childminder is the best way, ask friends, colleagues and neighbours if they know of any. Some childminders advertise in local shops and post offices or the local clinic and doctor's surgery. Visit your local authority to find out if they list childminders in your area. The government national website for listings was taken down in April 2011. If you live in Scotland visit: www.scottishchildcare.gov.uk If you live in Northern Ireland - try your local health and social services trusts or the Northern Ireland Childminding Association Tel: 028 9181 1015 www.nicma.org You can also contact the National Childminding Association of England and Wales Tel: freephone 0800 169 4486 www.ncma.org.uk You can also find Registered Childminders listed on www.childcare.co.uk, this the largest childcare search website dedicated to matching parents to relevant childcare. Free to register you can search by area, contact those advertising their vacancies and even advertise that you are looking for childcare. Many childminders I know have been found from childcare.co.uk and have been delighted. If you have any questions come along to the Forum where they will be answered by forum members or by a member of the Childcare.co.uk team. Also try your local authority - details will be in your local phone book. Or ask your health visitor or the nurse at your doctor's surgery. The Childminding Forum has details of childminders with vacancies, they are set out by region to help you find someone in your area. Also, some childminders have their own websites, you can find these listed on the Childminding Forum too. You can also ask on there if anyone has a vacancy near you.
